Trendlyne is a trusted investment platform used by investors and analysts. It tracks the quality of stocks using an automated system and offers screener strategies and tools designed to potentially maximize your returns.

Key features of Trendlyne include:

Using pre-built stock screeners

Stock screeners allow users to filter stocks based on specific queries. For instance, users can build screeners from 1500+ parameters to find stocks with particular technical and financial characteristics, or those showing red flags like unusual loss and profit fluctuations. These screeners automatically update as the metrics change.

Users can select from various stock universes in both pre-built and custom screeners to focus on specific groups of stocks, such as those in a watchlist, portfolio, sectors, industries or major indices like the S&P 500, Dow Jones, and more.

Analysing portfolios

Portfolio analysis on Trendlyne is accessible via the ‘Portfolio Pivot’ tab. It offers detailed insights based on five key parameters:

  1. Decision AnalysisThe Decision Analysis tab has three different sub-sections, Buy Decision, Hold Decision, and Sell Decision.

  • Buy Decision Analysis: Evaluates the quality and timing of stocks purchased, grouping buy decisions by financial year and segmenting them by returns generated. It offers insights into optimal holding periods and the percentage of buy decisions yielding returns over 15%(or a % selected by the user). To generate the report, select the account name and the starting financial year.

  • Hold Decision Analysis: Assesses the quality of hold decisions by analysing stock returns over time. Returns underperforming the user's desired percentage (default 15%) are highlighted in red. To generate this report, select your portfolio account and the starting financial year. Now click on ‘Generate Report’.

  • Sell Decision AnalysisReveals the performance of stocks post-sale, helping determine if stocks were sold too soon or too late and how they performed against the market afterward.

  1. Portfolio NAV: Tracks the market value of the portfolio over a given period, adjusting for losses and dividends. The Portfolio NAV feature allows you to generate your own NAV and compare it with selected indices.

  1. Rolling ReturnsProvides a clearer perspective on portfolio performance over time, free from the bias of recent results. To utilize this feature, select an index for comparison from the 'Select Index' option, add the account name under 'Select Your Account', specify the duration in 'Select Duration', and then click 'Generate Report'.

  1. Growth TrendAssesses the overall growth of your portfolio by calculating a weighted average of the growth rates of the companies in it over a specified period. It identifies the growth laggards and leaders. To access this report, select your account and the desired date range, and then click 'Generate Report'.

  1. Valuation Trend: The Valuation Trend or the Long Term PE calculates the share price of stocks relative to their average earnings per share over several years. This method provides a more stable and cautious measure of a stock's value compared to the simple historical PE, as it reduces the impact of recent fluctuations in performance.

  1. Calendar: Allows you to monitor key dates for corporate actions such as dividends, split, board meetings, and forthcoming results. To use this tool, select a date range, choose the type of corporate actions you want to track, select the group of stocks, and then click 'Generate Report'.
