Checking portfolio health
The Portfolio feature on Trendlyne allows every registered investor to create their own portfolio and monitor it for updates. It has features such as P&L Statement, Portfolio Pivot, Portfolio Dividends, Portfolio Calendar, Import Portfolio, and Edit Accounts.
In this section, investors can add stocks that they have invested in directly or upload their portfolio using an Excel or CSV file. For more details, visit How do I import my portfolio to Trendlyne?
The Portfolio section displays three different charts:
The first chart (ALL) displays the total investment made by the investor according to the portfolio they have created.
The second chart, located below the 'ALL' chart, shows the returns from the invested amount, including one-day gains and total unrealized profit from the investment.
The third chart provides a graphical view of your portfolio allocation, showing the distribution of stocks by name, sector, and industry. The default view is a pie chart, which can be switched to a tabular chart or a bar graph as preferred by the investor.
To add more stocks to an existing portfolio, click on 'Add to Portfolio'.
Analysing portfolios
Portfolio analysis on Trendlyne is accessible via the ‘Portfolio Pivot’ tab. It offers detailed insights based on five key parameters:
Decision Analysis: The Decision Analysis tab has three different sub-sections, Buy Decision, Hold Decision and Sell Decision.
Buy Decision Analysis: Evaluates the quality and timing of stocks purchased, grouping buy decisions by financial year and segmenting them by returns generated. It offers insights into optimal holding periods and the percentage of buy decisions yielding returns over 15%(or a % selected by the user). To generate the report, select the account name and the starting financial year.
Hold Decision Analysis: Assesses the quality of hold decisions by analysing stock returns over time. Returns underperforming the user's desired percentage (default is set at 15%) are highlighted in red. To generate this report, select your portfolio account and the starting financial year. Now click on ‘Generate Report’.
Sell Decision Analysis: Reveals the performance of stocks post-sale, helping determine if stocks were sold too soon or too late and how they performed against the market afterward.
Portfolio NAV: Tracks the market value of the portfolio over a given period, adjusting for losses and dividends. The Portfolio NAV feature allows you to generate your own NAV and compare it with selected indices.
Rolling Returns: Provides a clearer perspective on portfolio performance over time, free from the bias of recent results. To utilize this feature, select an index for comparison from the 'Select Index' option, add the account name under 'Select Your Account', specify the duration in 'Select Duration', and then click 'Generate Report'.
Growth Trend: Assesses the overall growth of your portfolio by calculating a weighted average of the growth rates of the companies in it over a specified period. It identifies the growth laggards and leaders. To access this report, select your account and the desired date range, and then click 'Generate Report'.
Valuation Trend: The Valuation Trend or the Long Term PE calculates the share price of stocks relative to their average earnings per share over several years. This method provides a more stable, cautious measure of a stock's value compared to the simple historical PE, as it reduces the impact of recent fluctuations in performance.
Calendar: Allows you to monitor key dates for corporate actions such as dividends, splits, board meetings and forthcoming results. To use this tool, select a date range, choose the type of corporate actions you want to track, select the group of stocks, and then click 'Generate Report'.
